My mom and stepdad love me!

My mom and stepdad sent Ian and I a Christmas care package!



If you look closely, you can see Hershey's chocolate (in Christmas colors), two packages of Walker's shortbread cookies, Christmas tree tinsel, Christmas socks, two cute ornaments, two darling Christmas pins, three books (including two by Beth Moore), recipes for rum balls (my mom always doubled the amount of rum) and strawberry jello pretzel salad, candy cane tea from Celestial Seasonings, mini candy canes, and of course, a Christmas card. Thanks for sending me a little bit of Christmas in a box, Mom and Big Brian!

    How fun to receive this package! I am sure that you will enjoy every item so much!

    Is there much of a Christmas celebrated there? Taiwan was under British colony right? Just my questions as I wonder...no Christ no need to have Christmas...

    please educate me. I hate to not know this and no my curiosity is going stir crazy!!!

  3. Ok I have just caught up on the writings of Cahleen! You have me laughing!

    For the smells of Christmas...make cinnamon pine cones. Use 1/4- 1/2 cup of cinnamon and slow simmer pine cones in the water. Then take the cones out and leave dry...then you have the pine cone cinnamon smell.

    For peppermint smell use the herb (dried) is fine and shave your bar of soap...melt in microwave for 3 minutes with 3 tablespoons of water ...when finished add 2 tablespoons of peppermint...and then place into a very small bowl or cookie cutters...the soap smells great. It is best with Ivory but any will smell pepperminty...The soap hardens in about 4 hours and will usually just slip out of mold.

    I of course am assuming a few things ...access to peppermint and cinnamon...pine cones...and ivory...microwave...

    Don't worry about not visiting for awhile, we're all busy this time of year! Christmas is not really celebrated here, although in Taipei (capital of Taiwanese consumerism and materialism) they do promote it as a "Western shopping holiday." To my knowledge, Taipei has never been occupied by the British, but they have been occupied by the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the Japanese. I can't wait to try your peppermint idea! I'll see if I can find all of the ingredients.
